and bring on the books. why educators say this school year has already given them reason to celebrate. nbc 10 news starts now. >> everyone has a dream when they get to itt tech to better their lives. >> hundreds of students trying to figure out their next move after their college closed without warning. good evening, i'm jacqueline london. >> and i'm jim rosenfield. students enrolled hoping to change their lives for the better, but now turns to chaos as itt technical is shutting down. >> each location now represents hundreds of broken promises for students and staff. nbc 10's keith jones is live at the campus in plymouth meeting. keith? >> reporter: jim, jackie, this is one of the pair of doors that will no longer open to hundreds of students.

we're talking 8,000 jobs cut all over the country. what that leaves these students with is debt up to their necks. not only that, unfulfilled dreams. >> i have $30,000 plus in student loans from itt tech. >> reporter: today nervous behind this sign, the 40-year-old reconsiders her life. >> i'm disabled, so this was to help change my life so i could get employment and come off of disability so i can provide for myself. >> reporter: all of these former students in the same boat, overflowing with questions. >> you sit there and you think what are you going to do? >> reporter: did you see this coming, did this really surprise you? >> it actually didn't. >> reporter: elizabeth baylor works to improve the quality and cost of education, she says this is a long time coming for itt tech, which was banned in late august from using new students to use federal aid because education department officials say the company became a risk to taxpayers and students like marquis gainey.

>> i'm in debt, you know, with trying to actually pay this back and stuff like that. you know, it's not right. >> reporter: now he's hoping to transfer. trouble is, some colleges won't accept his credits. his debt, however, could be cleared up. >> there's something called a closed school discharge in which they can get their loans wiped away and potentially start over at another school. >> reporter: but starting over means even more time. >> i'm very nervous, and my family was very proud of me for doing this. >> reporter: and itt tech says they will attempt to try to find their students new schools to transfer those credits. it is also been ordered, however, to pay $152 million to recover their school funds, to cover the refunds back to these hundreds of students now that need it from our area. live in plymouth meeting, keith jones, nbc 10 news. >> a scramble for sure, keith, but it is all systems go for philadelphia public school

students tomorrow. nbc 10 in south philly, as teachers got to crack open boxes and boxes of new books thanks to the right books campaign, 130,000 books will go to 650 classrooms. philly superintendent says it's a welcome change from last year when the p.a. budget standoff meant many schools had to do without. >> for this year we're not announcing that we're closing something, not announcing we're laying someone off. instead we're talking about investments. >> reporter: dr. hide also said the district is still working hard to reach a new contract deal with its teachers. and for three bucks county schools, this school year will be their first. nbc 10 was at a ribbon cutting at keystone elementary school in bristol township. students and parents got to tour the new school. tonight two other schools will also be opening their doors. a date has finally been set for bill cosby's sexual assault trial in montgomery county. this is video of cosby walking

out of the montgomery county courthouse this afternoon. a judge set a trial date of june 5th of next year. cosby's defense team says the comedian is blind and might need special accommodations during his trial. he's accused of drugging and sexually assaulting a temple employee in his home back in 2004. >> the media has presumed him guilty, not innocent. the media has championed the causes of his accusers. >> we've spent a lot of time talking to a lot of people all over the country and outside of the country. >> prosecutors told the court they want 13 other women who claim they were sexually assaulted by cosby to testify at his upcoming trial. new at 11:00, a sex assault at the made in america festival. a woman says a man in the crowd attacked her sunday night. she was in front of the stage when the man approached her from

mind. she screamed and says the man ran away. she went to the emergency room and then called police. to decision 2016 now, and the push for pennsylvania. tomorrow donald trump returns to philadelphia. his second trip to the city of brotherly love in less than a week. >> he's trying to make inroads against hillary clinton, who seems to be maintaining a slim lead in the race. the latest nbc news survey monkey poll has clinton polling at 48% among registered voters, trump trails with 42%. >> randy gyllenhaal live in center city, where trump will visit tomorrow. randy, trump spending time in philly, but he might be targeting the suburbs, right? >> reporter: yeah, donald trump wants to flip pennsylvania, he's going to need the help of college educated voters, many who live out in the suburbs, so his speech here at the union league tomorrow morning will need to be tailored to him and aids are telling us he'll be speaking about increasing the military, as well as other national security issues.

>> are you ready? >> reporter: when donald trump arrives here for the second time in a week, he'll speak to an elite private club of business leaders and socialites. >> i am a trump supporter. >> reporter: trump fans like rich marsdale, happy to see the campaign focusing on philly and the suburbs. >> he certainly needs to take pennsylvania and i think he can. >> reporter: but trump will also be greeted by loud protests, like his visit last week, black lives matter tells nbc 10 they'll picket outside the venue. >> mr. trump's racist rhetoric is not allowed here in philadelphia and won't be tolerated here. >> reporter: and this week, post labor day marks the final stretch. political strategists say it's when voters start paying attention and the ground game starts to matter, phone calls and door knocking, especially in swing states. >> pennsylvania is one of the states, donald trump still does not have significant staff. >> reporter: gop strategist joe watkins says trump's ground game is lacking.

the campaign has less than ten field offices in pennsylvania. while hillary clinton's campaign says they have more than 30. >> all right, look forward to see youing tomorrow. >> reporter: phone calls and pitching to voters. >> you have to identify your vote voters, and get them to the polls to vote for you. >> reporter: aides say trump will introduce a new foreign policy plan to dispense with regime change, as well as the creation of democracy in overseas countries that have no history. the event here begins tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m., but it is closed to the public. nbc 10 news. and hillary clinton is also making the push for pennsylvania tomorrow. her daughter chelsea will campaign in carlisle and state college. she'll head to scranton on thursday. tonight clinton and trump are making their case to military families. clinton pointed out contradictions in trump's plan to fight isis, saying he's insulting veterans with his

rhetoric. tonight trump said if he's elected he'll give his generals 30 days to come up with a plan to quickly defeat isis. tomorrow both candidates share a stage for the first ever commander-in-chief forum facing questions on national security, military affairs, and veterans issues with an audience full of service members. randy gyllenhaal will be there live from the intrepid sea, air, and space museum in new york. you can watch the forum here on nbc 10 starting at 8:00 p.m. new at 11:00, flames consume an historic bridge down the shore. fire broke out on the beesleys point bridge, which used to connect summers point and upper township. the bridge dates back to the 1920s, but was no longer in service and crews were in the process of tearing it down. no one was injured and no word on what caused the fire. congress is back in session and in the first vote senate democrats blocked a $1 billion zika funding package. democrats are against the bill because it bans planned parenthood clinics in puerto

rico from receiving money to fight the virus. republicans say the provision is reasonable and democrats should not block a bill that combats the spread of zika. meanwhile, a local drug company has started testing a zika vaccine in puerto rico. the company is based in plymouth meeting. a local community banding together tonight to try to save its police force. a packed house inside the borough hall and up for debate is whether to disband the local police department. penndel has one full-time chief and ten part-time officers. a vote is expected tonight, but the meeting is going on right now. if the vote passes, the community would be policed by middletown police. look at this. a police chase ends with a crash and then bullets start flying. why officers say they had no choice but to open fire. a menorah stolen from a synagogue. the clues that could help police

and big oil polluters have given toomey seven hundred thousand dollars in campaign contributions. tax breaks for them. campaign contributions for him. pat toomey. he's helping big oil polluters and millionaires. not the rest of us. lcv victory fund is responsible for the content of this advertising. philadelphia police are searching for a man seen on this surveillance video stealing a menorah from a local synagogue. police say the man was walking with a group in so manierton last month, he took off and grabbed the menorah from the front lawn. nbc 10 spoke with the rabbi who says this goes much further than just replacing the menorah. >> menorah is a very special menorah because it was dedicated by a member of our synagogue in memory of his father and now we're sending him with a synagogue before the high holiday without a menorah.

>> rabbi says the menorah is valued around $5,000. two men accused of shooting an atlantic city police officer faced a judge today. >> you have the right to remain silent. >> 29-year-old demetrius cross and his accomplice were arraigned today, both face attempted murder and weapons charges. police say they were involved in an armed robbery saturday morning near the caesars parking garage. a police officer observed the confrontation and was shot in the head getting out of his cruiser. >> every day has been an improvement. it's been good news. he's a fighter, he's always been, he's a tough kid. >> he's in critical, but stable condition. a third suspect was killed by another officer. the two are being held on $750,000 cash bail. and as the suspect stood in court, the community came together to help the injured officer. that includes a 9-year-old girl who shows you can make a

difference with a glass of lemonade. >> you want lemonade? >> on the first day of school, this is how addison likes spending her evenings, helping raise money in the sweetest way possible, by selling lemonade and now pasta. >> got some spaghetti, some meatballs, two things of meatballs. >> addison is wearing a huge smile because on this second day of fundraising she continues to collect money from people stopping by with donations. >> thank you. >> you're welcome. >> reporter: all to help the atlantic city police officer and his family. she holds a plaque with pride from the local police department, a thank you for all that she's done. >> still really sad, but it's fun to do this for him, and it's really fun to do it for a special reason. that's the best part. >> reporter: a little girl with the biggest heart, who says she just wanted to help when she heard of the tragedy and would want someone to do the same thing for her.

center city and pens port. when it's 80 degrees at 11:00 at night, it's kind of warm and going to be a warm day tomorrow. 78 in germantown, 79, 76 in parkside. so, yeah, it's warm everywhere. and you see that? that's still hermine and it's as close to the jersey shore as it has been the entire time. you can see a few showers in new jersey. there was some heavier showers earlier. they continue to track more toward the southwest, so they are not moving towards the philadelphia area or points west and as hermine moves out tomorrow, even new jersey will start to clear up. the wind is dying down, too. less than ten miles an hour in many areas, 12 miles an hour in philadelphia itself. but we are going to get another heat wave and it is probably going to start tomorrow. it will be very close to 90 degrees, 88 today, 95 on thursday. 93 friday.

95 on saturday. we also have high humidity that is going to be coming and start feeling like it's close to 100 by thursday. we're close to record levels, too. the record in philadelphia is 96. predicting 95. mt. holly, millville, newark, delaware, going to be pretty close to records. we may see some broken, but we also are not going to be seeing much rain, so the heat dries up your lawn, the lack of rain lets it dry some more. you're going to have to water some lawns, because there's not much of a chance of rain. philadelphia, dover, reading, atlantic city, anywhere else, not much of a threat during the next week. so tomorrow it's near 90 at fairmont, reading 89. little bit higher humidity than today. still nothing too extreme. and we're not really expecting showers at the shore tomorrow because of the system starting to move out.

so should be a much nicer afternoon at the shore than it has been. there's thursday and friday in philadelphia. at the pa suburbs and also lehigh valley, looks like we could hit 90 both of those days, too, and still be pretty warm at the shore. look at that, 89 degrees at the jersey shore on thursday. 87 friday, more of a land breeze, and everywhere else, of course, does get into the 90s. there's the 90s thursday, friday, saturday, but probably not sunday. the eagles, the humidity goes down and then it's relatively comfortable early in the week and very comfortable and cooler later in the week. >> all right, glenn. epipens in schools, what we've learned about the real cost of the life saving medicine. >> and why the government could be launching an investigation.

this wild high speed police pursuit caught on camera today in arizona. this was the scene in tempe. a bank robber trying to evade police. officers eventually stopped the suspect and that's when they opened fire on the suspect's vehicle, killing the driver. authorities say the suspect endangered the public and had already shot at officers there. toll dodgers could be putting the future of the pennsylvania turnpike in serious jeopardy. that's according to a state audit released today, found the turnpike commission is seeing a growing number of people not paying tolls. it also found if toll hikes continue at this rate, drivers could be forced to find alternate routes. another hit to the makers of epipen. industry insiders say the makers inflated costs by 400%. according to nbc news, at least two insiders say the company mylan pays no more than $30 per
